The Boone Toreadors softball team opened up its playoff run with two wins last week on the softball field.

Boone ended their regular season with a close loss to the Winterset Huskies, 5-4. After that, the Toreadors began the postseason with a 9-1 win over the Carroll Tigers and a 6-4 win over Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

In their loss to the Huskies to close out regular season play, it was a heartbreaking loss for the Toreadors. They led the Huskies 4-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning, where the Huskies rattled off three runs to take a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh, and Boone couldn’t bring home the tying or winning runs.

Brooke Weisbrod had two hits and one RBI. Hailee Bingham had two hits, one of which was a home run. Harper Kuehl had one hit. Brooke Weisbrod pitched a complete game and was credited with the loss, allowing eight hits and five runs, striking out two batters.

Their playoff-opening win against Carroll was their third win over the Tigers this year. The Toreadors registered eight hits in 22 at-bats and scored runs in the first, second, fourth, and fifth innings.

Harper Kuehl and Hailee Bingham each had two hits and one RBI. Tenley Williams, Kaylee Kuehl, and Brooke Weisbrod each had one hit and one RBI, and Olivia Garver had one hit. Tenley Williams pitched a complete game, earning the win, allowing four hits and one run, and striking out four batters.

Their second playoff win came against a tough Sergeant Bluff-Luton team that had won 31 games. The game was tied 4-4 after two innings of play, but Boone added one insurance run in each of the third and fourth innings and held the Warriors defensively for the rest of the game.

Brooke Weisbrod had a monster night at the plate with four hits and two RBIs. Tenley Williams had two hits. Kaylee Kuehl had one hit and two RBIs. Harpe Kuehl had one hit and one RBI, and Halle Bailey and Finley Houser had one hit apiece. Brooke Weisbrod pitched a complete game, earning the win, allowing nine hits and four runs, and striking out five batters.

Just like the baseball team, the Toreadors were expected to face a familiar opponent on Tuesday, the North Polk Comets, for their next playoff game.
